We Vote Local

Our Mission

At We Vote Local, our mission is to empower our community through voter education and engagement. We believe that informed citizens are the backbone of a healthy democracy.

Our goal is to develop and run a non-partisan campaign to increase voter engagement in the 2026 municipal election.

    Voter Turnout

    The last Owen Sound municipal election was in 2022.  

    Voter turnout was a meager 6,230 people - the 39% turnout was the lowest since 2006.


    The previous election in 2018 saw 52.2% of voters casting ballots.

      

    This is a significant drop in participation from Owen Sound residents.

    In 1918, women won the right to vote in Ontario. Just two years later, Constance Hamilton was elected as the first woman to a municipal council (Toronto). 

    Over 100 years later, more women have been elected in both Grey Bruce and across Ontario, but gender balance has not been achieved. And so, the work of electHER Now continues on.

    As of October 24, 2022, only 29% of municipal positions in Grey Bruce are held by women, where 51% of the population are women*.
